The rise of AI-powered cyberfraud is incredibly dangerous. Deepfakes, hacking bank accounts, misinformation, disinformation... Yeah, I know. It's a lot.

To combat the new crimes that are powered by new technology, we need innovative solutions. We need mandatory biometrics for each internet user. Everywhere... Right?

Yes and no.

While the rise of AI-powered cyberfraud is certainly a cause for concern, implementing mandatory biometrics for all internet users is not the only solution we need. Biometric technology alone will add an extra layer of security but it's not foolproof.

For example, biometric data, such as your fingerprint, can be stolen from your mobile phone. Once stolen, it cannot be changed like a password can. This means that your convenient way of unlocking your mobile phone is now a not-so-convenient global security threat. Potentially for the rest of your life. Oh gosh, darn it.

Aside from theft, another issue is that not everyone has access to biometric technology. Perhaps big tech or governments or both can step in to bridge the gap. There is also the issue of disabilities. Not everyone has fingers, right? Not everyone has eyes either. So now what?

We could probably use a more holistic approach, for now. That is of course until we all join the Borg and we are all one and that's that. But until we'll need:

  • Advanced cybersecurity measures that can detect and prevent cyberattacks before they occur.

  • More education for the public on how to protect themselves online. Like digital self-defence on how to recognize and report suspicious activity.

  • Laws that hold cybercriminals accountable for their actions. This includes stricter penalties.

  • Increased transparency and accountability from tech companies when it comes to protecting user data. This is a big one.

In brief, the rise of AI-powered cyberfraud is a very serious issue. Mandating biometrics for all internet users is not the only answer, or perhaps not even the answer at all. Instead, we need a comprehensive approach that includes advanced cybersecurity measures, public education, stronger penalties and increased transparency from big tech regarding user data. Surely by working together, we can create a safer and more secure online world for everyone.

But that's just me conveying the lay of the land. Maybe you agree? Maybe you don't. Comment down below and let us know your hot take. ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿš’
